Reducing your exposure to chemicals could also decrease your chances of developing other illnesses and eliminate headaches, migraines, rashes, runny noses, itchy eyes, sore throats, wheezing, and hives.
We are on a mission to help as many people as possible to learn from our knowledge and experience. Therese Forton-Barnes is an educated ‘Household Toxins Health Specialist’ and ‘Head Guru’ at the Green Living Gurus and owner of Tee’s Organics. She has her own story and was told she had breast cancer in 2006; The doctor wrongly diagnosed her and she found out while in the gurney getting ready for surgery. She can’t even imagine what others have had to suffer through. Her Aunt and Uncle died of cancer and her mother had cancer; she has seen too many others suffer from the disease and too many die. She wants to educate people about these known carcinogens and toxic chemicals that exist in our environment and homes and potentially causes cancer and other various illnesses. Her sister also has an auto-immune disorder, Mitochondrial Disease, and chemicals debilitate her on a daily basis and can create havoc on her life. They both have learned and studied for decades the effects chemicals can have on your body and unfortunately, have first-hand experience.
We want to share with others what we have learned over the years of studying and researching how toxic chemicals may be affecting your health. Too many chemicals are in our surroundings and we have choices and alternatives available. We are constantly on the lookout for harmful ingredients that are lurking in our everyday products in the average household. We are very passionate about sharing this knowledge with others, who are often unaware of the widespread use of these toxic chemicals in our world.
If we can make a difference in one person’s life, we have made a difference. We have a store on Amazon that lists products that we either use or believe in. These products will change over time and we are always adding more. The Gurus Amazon Store. Click Here To Visit The Guru Store
Therese Forton-Barnes, aka “Tee”, Environmental Toxins Health Coach, and the “Head Guru”
Therese lives in her beloved hometown of Buffalo, New York with her husband Tom and Australian Labradoodle Murphy. After earning a degree from Ithaca College with a major in Business and a minor in Health Studies, she had a dream to open a Health food Super Market but Whole Foods beat her to the punch. Instead, she ended up having an event and wedding planning company called Events to a Tee and has planned over 700 events. But, since she graduated in 1985, she has always had a passion to help people eliminate toxic and harmful chemicals and live healthier lives.
Therese has now taken her expertise in business and event planning and combined it with her true passion: healthy, natural, non-toxic living. Therese brings over 50 years of hands-on, real-world experience in living a holistic, non-toxic lifestyle. She is also furthering her education and training all the time. She recently completed Lara Adlers Certificate course in Environmental Health. It is an advanced course that offers a deep education in environmental health along with personalized business coaching on integrating this topic into a health-based business. The course explores the history of the environmental health movement, from the turn of the last century up to modern-day public policy around toxins, exploration of industry front groups, epigenetics, toxicology, and detoxification protocols. She also studied the potential exposures we experience in and around our homes, from home construction, furniture, and carpeting, to bedding, personal care products, indoor air quality, basement, garage, and lawn care. Therese is in the last phase of getting her certificate from the International Association of Wellness Professionals(IAWP). The IAWP is home to health and wellness professionals and coaches across a wide variety of holistic modalities. The professional association is a network that provides ongoing training and support to wellness professionals who are committed to helping people live healthier and better lives. IAWP teaches that every individual is unique and has a variety of lifestyle factors. Therese is also a member of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ). ISIAQ was founded in 1992 by 109 international scientists and practitioners following the 5th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and Climate, Indoor Air ’90 (Toronto, 1990). It is an international, independent, multidisciplinary, scientific, non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the creation of healthy, comfortable, and productivity-encouraging indoor environments.
Besides living a healthy life, Therese loves to exercise, sip on organic wine, cook, walk her dog, go to the beach, listen to live music, plan parties, hang with her Dad, is an avid sports fan(especially the Buffalo Bills and Sabres) and loves to cruise in her 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible.
Jamie Forton
Jamie also lives in Buffalo and is the mother of four wonderful children. She is an artist, poet, and colorist. Jamie does a lot of work for the Green Living Gurus, LLC behind the scenes. Not only is she very knowledgeable of the chemicals that lurk in our environment, but she also has to constantly be on the ‘lookout’ for anything that she comes in contact with due to her mitochondrial disorder, and autoimmune disease.
Mitochondria is responsible for creating most of the energy needed by the body to sustain life and support organ function. When they fail, less energy is generated within the cell. Any chemical that she comes in contact with can affect her mitochondria and send her organs and body into a frenzy. Just walking by someone’s house that is using toxic laundry detergent or dryer sheets can affect her terribly. If in an UBER, that uses a plug-in air freshener, she can have a migraine for days. If she is even around someone that is wearing perfume she can get hives. She has to always be on the lookout and analyze every product that she uses or comes in contact with. Jamie is a lover of nature, walking the beach barefoot, kayaking, reading, writing, and being with her children.
